Well, the conference was terrific. Loads of invaluable info and experience. I met such nice folks, too. I love small conferences for that reason - you get to meet the agents and editors and see them in different settings - at a dinner, teaching a workshop, taking appointments, etc. Suzanne Brockmann, the keynote speaker, was fabulous. I also had an opportunity to chat with an editor from a huge publishing company, and a top - and I mean top - agent (who was the sweetest person!) The book signing was fun - I sold some books, bought some books and talked to some great folks in the process. I came home with a huge Bag O Books, as if the TBR pile could be any higher! But I dived right into one - How to Ruin a Summer Vacation, by Simone Elkeles, who I sat next to at the signing. Terrific book - just finished it. Now, I'm on the first chapter of Deidre Knight's Parallel Attraction, which already has me hooked.
It's a wonderful thing to be surrounded by writers talking about writing. Today the buzz finally wore off when I had to get a cortisone shot in my heel - ouchie! Off my feet for the night with an ice pack.

I enjoyed the conference, too. I like small over large, but will still go to the biggie for the wider networking and more presentation possibilities.
Next up for me is Pike's Peak Writer's Conference in Colorado Springs (which just happens to be where 2 of my kids and my new grandson live). It's a 'general' conference, not specialized in romance.
Another favorite for me is SleuthFest -- it maxes out around 300 people, I think, which is big enough to draw in some major players in the mystery field.
I think conferences make me feel like a 'real' writer instead of someone sitting home and making up stories.
I've never been to one (yet) but when I finally make it I think I'll try a small one first. :)
That'll be fun, Terry - with the added benefit of some family time.

I really have to go to a small one. This year I'm going back to Nationals -- my little vacation and recharge time with some cross-country writing friends.
Southern lights was my first ever, so I'm hoping to attend Moonlight and Magnolia's in Ga.

I’m so glad you had a good time, Dara! I love to go to conferences, especially since the nature of writing is so solitary. I usually go to RWA’s national conference, and, depending on my deadlines, try to take in at least one smaller, more intimate conference or retreat. Don’t you wish you could bottle that post conference buzz and take it out when you really need a lift?
