New Year Pressure

With the new year approaching quickly, I can't help but reflect upon my goals for '08 and what I've accomplished in '07.
This past year has brought many new things to my life that I hope to build on for my career. My first print books were released as well as two e short stories and one e-book. I served as president of my RWA chapter, something I never thought I would have the guts to do. I participated in 6 book signings and made 4 presentations before audiences - something else that I never envisioned for myself. All in all, I've pushed my professional envelope a bit.
On a personal note, I watched my first born start college and my sister get married. My goals for the coming year are to meet some personal challenges head on and to further develop my writing career.
What about you? Do you buy into that whole resolution stuff? What's on your goal menu?

Oh, no pressure! LOL. I told you I'm bad about it unless someone reminds me. My NY goals? Did I mention one of them is to actually stop by everyone's blogs and comment once in a while?!

Actually, one of my CPs (one who lives on this coast, not the bi-coastal one!) and I are getting together tomorrow to talk about this year's writing goals. I have a couple of big personal ones -- including getting into shape so I can give myself a rock-climbing adventure for Yule next year. Writing goals, in general, are to continue more of what I did right this year, improve what needs improving, and generally get myself more organized (I could learn from you, oh great one!) so I can be more productive. If I had to boil it down to one word, that would be the one: productivity. Can't sell 'em if you don't write 'em!

Thanks, Kelley - same to you. Although making a baby is the biggest accomplishment of all;-)
Lara - good goals. Mine are similar. I've been super lazy with my writing through the holidays. They stretched into an entire month!

Dara -- You've had a great writing year!!!!!!

I'm working through my 2008 goals now. I printed last years and patted myself on the back for the ones I accomplished and analyzed where I fell down on the others. I hope that process will make this years goals much more solid.

I'll be posting them over at htt://www.macyoneal.blogspot.com sometime in the next week.

Very brave to post them, Macy. You have more confidence than I;-)

It's now 2008. I have my too-quickly abandoned goal notebook beside me (It worked much better as a journal in South Africa!), but I realize that I have achieved far more than expected, even though I'm not a household name (or even a bookstore name).

But when I step back, I see I have three books published and two more on the way, as well as another short story. Plus a manuscript with an agent.

Congrats to you on all your accomplishments.

Wow, Dara! What a fabulous year you’ve had! Congratulations! You’re a great writer, and I am so grateful for all you’ve done for CFRW. Here’s to a New Year full of good health, happiness, frequent visits from the Muse and many, many book contracts!

That's sweet, Nancy, thanks. My first short term goal is to finish the 3 partial manuscripts I worked on in the past few months. Can you say Procrastinate;-)

Congrats on your 2007 accomplishments, I'm sure 2008 will be that much better! Personally, I'm so grateful for all you've done for CFRW. You're one of the reasons I decided to get more involved.

Way to knock out those resolutions, Dara!

I'll be posting a complete list later this week, too. I'm already working on one of them--completing a creativity course for my own growth (Julia Cameron's Walking In This World) and polishing up two proposals so Dream Agent can provide some career guidance. Plus the overhaul my body and finally clean my house thing. :P

Wow, Mimi - You've dished up quite a full plate! Good for you.

Congrats on last years accomplishments! I like having a focus which is how I view my goal making... no I may not make it, but usually with them established I'm further along then if I didn't have that ultimate knowledge acknowledged and printed and prodding me along. =) Good luck with yours!
